Make and take Shibori dye class
About the class:
Shibori is a method of manipulating fabric to create repeating patterns in the fabric. In this class we will focus on three specific techniques. Arashi shibori involves wrapping the fabric around a pole. The fabric can be additionally manipulated before wrapping to create interesting variations. Itajime involes folding, clamping, and binding the fabric, the possibilities are endless! Mokume is a form of stitched resist.
The focus of this class will be on fabric manipulation to get beautiful unique results. No two pieces of fabric will be the same! No previous dyeing experience is necessary; I will do all the chemistry and math. We will cover basic dye theory, however this is not a class about fabric dyeing. The fabric will receive one washout during the day of class, however it is recommended that students do two more additional washouts at home to make sure that all excess dye has been removed. Instruction for final washout will be reviewed during class.
